A Guide to Note Taking

Thank you for your interest in becoming a note taker! To sign up, go to DRC Online and click on "Notetaker, sign up!"

You will be asked to fill out an online form and contract, and agree to the terms and conditions. Note that you will need to use your @pdx.edu email address. Once you've set up your account, you will be asked to enter your classes. It's easiest if you have the CRN (Course Registration Numbers) on hand for this step.

NOTE: Some classes have two CRNs (also known as cross-listed classes). If the class is cross-listed, you and the student may have registered under different CRNs. We can work with you to make sure you receive your note taker assignment. Please stop by or call the office and let us know that the class is cross-listed.

We will check to see if a student in your listed classes needs a notetaker and notify you via email if we assign you as the notetaker for the class.

Once you confirm the assignment you are good to go to load notes!

Loading Notes

IMPORTANT! There is a file size limit! If you are scanning your notes, make sure that you scan only one class per file, and be aware that larger files may need to be split in two. Word and Rich Text files should load without problems.

Please load notes through DRC Online. Please only email notes directly to the student(s) if the file is too large to load into our system. There may be more than one student in the class who needs note taking services, and loading the notes in DRC Online will ensure that everyone has access. If you must email notes, please maintain confidentiality by using "BCC" instead of "To" or "CC".

To load notes:

1. Log in to your DRC online notetaking account.
2. Click on the Notetaker tab.
3. Scroll down to "File Information" and select the correct class, week, and day for the notes.
4. Under "Select File" click on "Browse" to go to the directory where you have saved your notes and select the file.
5. Please indicate the class name and date the notes were taken in the Description box.
6. Click on the "Upload Notes" button to load your notes.
7. The notes will appear in the list at the bottom of the page.

At the end of the term you will receive a notice that your invoice is ready for signature and submission for payment. This must be done within 45 days of the end of the term, so make sure you take care of it as soon as you receive the notice! Once you have submitted the invoice in DRC Online, the student (or students) who received notes will be alerted to e-sign the invoice.
